Accessibility Statement

What we have built for accessibility, how it was tested, and what is still open.

Ham Sales Shop is built to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who navigate by keyboard, use a screen reader, need larger text, or prefer reduced motion.

Target standard

The store targets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. That target covers this storefront: the home page, department and category archives, product pages, cart, checkout, account pages and the editorial pages linked from the footer.

What has been implemented

  • A skip link to the main content as the first focusable element on every page.
  • Semantic landmarks — header, navigation, main, footer — and one logical H1 per page.
  • Visible focus indicators on every interactive control, with focus kept inside dialogs while they are open and returned to the trigger when they close.
  • The department mega-menu, mobile drawer, filters, product gallery, quick view, cart drawer and checkout all operable by keyboard alone.
  • Colour contrast checked against the design tokens: body text, muted text, link text, button labels and badge text all meet or exceed the AA thresholds for their size.
  • Status messages announced through live regions rather than colour or motion alone, including add-to-cart, wishlist and form validation.
  • Form fields with persistent labels, error text tied to the field it describes, and errors never signalled by colour alone.
  • Meaningful alternative text on informative images and empty alt text on decorative ones.
  • Touch targets sized for comfortable use on phones, and a layout that reflows without horizontal scrolling down to small screens.
  • Respect for the operating system’s reduced-motion preference; no autoplaying audio or video anywhere on the site.

How it was tested

Testing was carried out with keyboard-only navigation, browser developer tools, and contrast calculations against the theme’s design tokens, at viewport widths of 1920, 1440, 768, 430 and 390 pixels. Testing with assistive technology by people who rely on it day to day has not yet been carried out.

Known limitations

  • Assistive-technology testing with real users is outstanding.
  • Some markup on the cart, checkout and account pages comes from WooCommerce itself. We have styled it for contrast and focus visibility, but its underlying structure is not fully under our control.
  • Product photographs come from open databases and carry the product name as alternative text. A small number of listings still show clearly labelled placeholder artwork.
  • This statement has not been through a formal third-party accessibility audit.
